Drinking fountain for Twin Towns

The drinking fountain in the square is made from a former milestone, which was found at the recycling center and transformed into a drinking fountain by local craftsmen.

The stone is engraved with Ringsted’s sister cities and the distances to them, as well as the namesake city Ringsted in Iowa.

Skövde 351 km, Vammala 923 km, Halden 410 km,
Gyöngyös 1,020 km, Kutná Hora 655 km,
Ringsted, Iowa, USA 7,061 km.

It was donated by the Soroptimists on their 50th anniversary to beautify Ringsted’s new square and was inaugurated on October 22, 2001.

Mayor Rasmus Kristensen (Venstre) was the first to taste the municipal water. Afterwards, the Soroptimists and a group of children from Sct. Bendt’s kindergarten were also given the chance to taste, symbolizing that the fountain is for the benefit of all citizens and passersby, regardless of age.

The Soroptimists also gifted the mayor a carafe so he could fetch water from the fountain whenever he got thirsty in his mayor’s office.
